Santo Cropano, 71, of Clark, NJ, and formerly of Port St. Lucie, Fl., Staten Island, NY, and Brooklyn, NY passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Torre del Greco, Naples, Italy, Santo carried the soul of his homeland with him throughout his life, expressing it most powerfully through food, tradition, and togetherness.

The beloved son of the late Michele Cropano and Caterina Borriello, Santo proudly served in the Italian Army as a young man, a reflection of his discipline, responsibility, and strong character. He later followed his true calling into the culinary world, where his hands and heart found their purpose.

Santo dedicated more than forty years of his life to the art of cooking. A true culinary artist, he worked as a professional chef both on land and at sea, including aboard Italian cruise lines that allowed him to travel the world while sharing the flavors of his heritage. His kitchen was never simply a place of work. It was a place of love, creativity, and connection. Through his food, he brought people together, turned strangers into friends, and made every gathering feel like home.

Throughout his life, Santo lived in Italy, New York, New Jersey, and Florida, yet no matter where he resided, home was always defined by who was gathered around the table. His greatest joy was preparing meals for family and friends, serving generous dishes accompanied by wine, laughter, and conversation that lingered long after the plates were cleared.

Beyond the kitchen, Santo found peace in building intricate model ships, a hobby that reflected his patience, precision, and quiet focus. He was also a devoted supporter of Italian soccer and a lifelong, proud fan of Napoli, celebrating victories with the same heartfelt enthusiasm he brought to every part of life.

Above all else, Santo’s heart belonged to his family. He was the beloved husband of Amelia Cropano, a devoted father to Catrina Cropano and Michael Cropano, and a cherished father in law to Kerrin Cropano.

He was a loving brother to Nunzia Cropano and her spouse Raffaele, Giorgio Cropano and his spouse Ida, Vittorio Cropano and his spouse Anna, and Anna Maria Cropano and her spouse Luigi.

He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, including his mother in law Maria Sophia; his sisters in law Angela Como and her spouse Salvatore, Eleonora, Rosanna and her partner Joe, and Giovanna; as well as many in laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were touched by his kindness and steady presence.

Santo was patient, kind, and selfless. He lived for others, giving without hesitation and expecting nothing in return. Soft spoken and humble, he did not need many words to make an impact. His presence alone brought calm and reassurance, and his ability to make people feel valued was one of his greatest gifts. He worked hard, loved deeply, and lived simply, always placing his family first.

Santo would want to be remembered not for accolades, but for the life he built and the love he shared. A life centered on family, hard work, tradition, and the simple joy of being together.

Family and friends are invited to honor Santo’s life at Riotto Funeral Home, 3205 John F Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, New Jersey 07306, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Funeral services will begin on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Saint John the Baptist Church, Jersey City. Cremation will be private.

Santo Cropano, 71 anni, di Clark, New Jersey, già residente a Port St. Lucie, Florida, a Staten Island, New York, e a Brooklyn New York si è serenamente spento venerdì 20 febbraio 2026, circondato dall’amore della sua famiglia. Nato a Torre del Greco, Napoli, Santo ha portato con sé l’anima della sua terra per tutta la vita, esprimendola in modo profondo attraverso il cibo, la tradizione e lo stare insieme.

Amato figlio dei compianti Michele Cropano e Caterina Borriello, Santo ha servito con orgoglio l’Esercito Italiano da giovane, testimonianza della sua disciplina, del suo senso di responsabilità e del suo carattere forte. In seguito ha seguito la sua vera vocazione nel mondo della cucina, dove le sue mani e il suo cuore hanno trovato il loro scopo.

Santo ha dedicato oltre quarant’anni della sua vita all’arte culinaria. Vero artista dei fornelli, ha lavorato come chef professionista sia a terra sia in mare, anche a bordo di navi da crociera italiane che gli hanno permesso di viaggiare per il mondo condividendo i sapori della sua tradizione. La sua cucina non è mai stata semplicemente un luogo di lavoro. Era un luogo di amore, creatività e legami. Attraverso i suoi piatti ha unito le persone, trasformato sconosciuti in amici e fatto sentire ogni incontro come a casa.

Nel corso della sua vita, Santo ha vissuto in Italia, a New York, nel New Jersey e in Florida, ma ovunque si trovasse, la casa era sempre definita da chi sedeva attorno al tavolo. La sua gioia più grande era preparare da mangiare per familiari e amici, servendo piatti generosi accompagnati da vino, risate e conversazioni che continuavano ben oltre lo sgombero dei piatti.

Oltre alla cucina, Santo trovava pace nel costruire modellini di navi, un hobby che rifletteva la sua pazienza, precisione e concentrazione silenziosa. Era anche un appassionato sostenitore del calcio italiano e tifoso fedele e orgoglioso del Napoli, celebrando le vittorie con lo stesso entusiasmo sincero che metteva in ogni aspetto della vita.

Soprattutto, il cuore di Santo apparteneva alla sua famiglia. Era l’amato marito di Amelia Cropano, padre devoto di Catrina Cropano e Michael Cropano, e caro suocero di Kerrin Cropano.

Era un fratello affettuoso per Nunzia Cropano e il marito Raffaele, Giorgio Cropano e la moglie Ida, Vittorio Cropano e la moglie Anna, e Anna Maria Cropano e il marito Luigi.

È inoltre ricordato con affetto dalla sua famiglia allargata, tra cui la suocera Maria Sophia, le cognate Angela Como e il marito Salvatore, Eleonora, Rosanna e il compagno Joe, e Giovanna, oltre a numerosi cognati, cugini, nipoti e nipoti, tutti toccati dalla sua gentilezza e dalla sua presenza costante.

Santo era paziente, gentile e altruista. Viveva per gli altri, donando senza esitazione e senza aspettarsi nulla in cambio. Di poche parole e umile, non aveva bisogno di parlare molto per lasciare il segno. La sua sola presenza portava calma e rassicurazione, e la sua capacità di far sentire le persone apprezzate era uno dei suoi doni più grandi. Ha lavorato duramente, amato profondamente e vissuto con semplicità, mettendo sempre la famiglia al primo posto.

Santo avrebbe voluto essere ricordato non per i riconoscimenti, ma per la vita che ha costruito e per l’amore che ha condiviso. Una vita incentrata sulla famiglia, sul lavoro, sulla tradizione e sulla semplice gioia dello stare insieme.
